Instagram Instagram did not return a Magically concealed behind the barrier between Muggle Platforms Nine and Ten , this Platform was where Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry students boarded the Hogwarts Express every 1 September , in order to attend school.
In order for someone to get onto Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, they had to walk directly at the apparently solid barrier dividing Platforms Nine and Ten. In northwestern London lay King's Cross Station , a Muggle railway station that was one of the busiest in the city.
It was a perfectly ordinary station, with big plastic numbers over each track and guards who have never heard of Hogwarts School. The crowd was wizarding children, bearing enormous trunks and caged owls and other unusual pets, making their way toward — and then through — the solid metal barrier between platforms nine and ten. Though the platform was normally only used six days a year round trips for the beginning and end of term, as well as the Christmas and Easter holidays , the platform on those days was awash with activity.
After the Ministry of Magic had acquired the Hogwarts Express , under Minister Ottaline Gambol in [9] , they also built a railway station at Hogsmeade , as a necessary adjunct to the train.
It was only after Minister Orpington was appointed to the office - that a solution was reached: a concealed platform would be added to the newly Muggle-built King's Cross Station, accessible only to witches and wizards. While the solution proved a good one, there were always some minor issues, such as witches and wizards dropping suitcases full of biting spellbooks or newt spleens all over the polished station floor, or disappearing through the solid barrier a little too loudly.
To prevent any serious breaches of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy , there is usually a number of plain-clothed Ministry of Magic employees on hand at the station, to deal with any inconvenient Muggle memories that may need altering. While the parents looked around the platform with an air of wholehearted enjoyment, the two sisters argued and Petunia called her sister a freak.
Harry Potter trying to find the platform while in a crowd of Muggles. Not knowing how to get into it, and recognising the Weasley family as a family of wizards , he asked Molly Weasley how to access it. The shop is a bit pricey, but taking a picture is free, unless you want a professional one, which you can buy from the shop.
The queue is minimal now due to pandemic and staff do their best to navigate and give guidance.. This is a major attraction for Harry Potter fans and the queue to have your picture here is immense. You see nationalities from around the world waiting. It is located in King's Cross Station. Robert H London, United Kingdom 51 contributions. Utterly pathetic. People are quite literally insane.
Shameless commercialism but a must for Harry Potter fans. Shameless commercialism but a must for Harry Potter fans -- or in this case, her grandfather. Lots of HP souvenirs.
NaCustomer Na 29 contributions. Awful, aggressive and unpleasant experience. Completely appalled by a member of staff who has seen fit this afternoon to bodily prevent me, hit their hand over my phone and insult me when trying to take a completely innocuous photo of the imaginary?
Small child in tears as a result of your unnecessary conduct. Shame on you and would advise by other readers not to bother even deviating out of their path through the station to see it. Dan J Sheffield, UK contributions. Came around lunch time but the queue was enormous. Came back late at night before our train and there was no queue.
The professional photographer obviously wasn't there at that time but we just took our own photos. AlissaNicol Turin, Italy 2 contributions. The shop and staff have pretty much ruined this little gem. We were expecting a trolley halfway through a brick wall, and there is that, but, a whole lot of other nonsense. We arrived about PM hoping the line would not be as long as it was in the morning when we first stopped by.
We got to the front finally and took some photos of the kids at PM! The staff actually make it take at least three times longer than it would were the tourists to just queue on their own. It was utterly ridiculous to observe the prep work taking your own scarf off, choosing your house, putting on a Hogwarts scarf, picking up a wand , the re-takes, the additional poses want to jump, how about a little higher, how about a dueling shot with your friend, and now let's levitate this extra scarf, wand at ready, 1, 2, 3 , and even more re-takes, not to mention the banter between the staff members preventing them from moving through the line faster.
We didn't have to wait this long for the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham for goodness sake! The jumping and dueling and levitating poses are just silly.
Underage wizards aren't supposed to use magic outside school grounds after all! And to get through a brick wall you need to push the cart at "a bit of a run". Why do the staff take minutes with each individual, and add in these senseless poses? Yes, like we did, you can take your own photos and it won't cost you anything but your time, but what a shame.
Too bad the experience was not a delightful one, a simple photo op with a thoughtfully placed nostalgic prop. It really should be. Karissa G Trinidad 10 contributions. If you are a potterhead, this is a must. You can get your picture taken as well as your Hogwarts Letter.
Went on a Harry Potter tour it ended here wonderful stop. I loved seeing a store at Kings landing tube stop backed go early in the morning so your not outside waiting to get in.
